Yoga poses for neck pain

Do you suffer from neck pain? Do you have a stiff neck or have problems with the neck? These days when technology is so advanced and people are so busy, neck pain is becoming very common. People who are sitting at a desk for long hours or watching TV on a large screen, they are suffering from neck pain.

People should avoid taking hard chairs and choose soft chairs which can help to prevent neck pain. Neck pain can be caused due to many reasons. You can see that some people have bad posture, others have neck muscle strain, neck arthritis, a neck injury, neck cancer or other problems.

But yoga can help to prevent neck pain and treat neck pain. Here are some yoga poses that will help you to get rid of neck pain and strengthen your neck.

Standing forward bend pose

This is one of the most common yoga poses. Many people use it as a warm-up and to get relaxed. If you are having pain on your neck, then this is the best pose to relax your neck and spine.

If you are unable to do this pose then you can do it standing, but the posture should be straight. The hands should be shoulder-width apart and the feet should be firmly planted on the ground.

You should keep the back straight and the head up and down. Keep your eyes focused ahead and breathe deeply.

Extended triangle pose

This is the best yoga pose for neck pain. If you want to relax your neck and spine, then this is the best pose. You can also do it with your baby.

It is the easiest and safest yoga pose. You can hold your baby’s arms and head in your hands. You can also use your hand to support the child’s back.

You can do this pose with the child sitting on your lap. You can place your knees on the floor. You can also place a pillow under the child’s hips to support it.

Cat-Cow pose

It is a very simple yoga pose that will help you to stretch your entire back. Stand straight with your feet together and put your hands on your thighs. Slowly bend forward and look down.

Keep your back straight and breathe slowly. If you feel any pain in your back then stay calm and take your time. You can also try this pose if you are feeling tired.

Thread the needle pose

This pose will help you to stretch your entire back and make it strong. Stand straight with your legs apart and hold your hands in front of you. Bend forward and look down.

Keep your back straight and breathe slowly. Hold it for 10 to 15 seconds and then relax your back.

Half lord of the fishes pose

The half lord of the fish pose will help you to stretch your arms, chest, and back. It will also help you to stretch your neck muscles. You will feel relaxed and comfortable after practising this pose.

Cow face pose

If you have experienced any injury to your neck, then this is the best yoga pose for neck pain. The cow face pose will relax your neck and shoulders. It will also help you to control your breathing. You will feel a sense of calmness in your mind after practising this pose.

Sphinx pose

Sphinx pose is the most effective yoga poses for neck pain and it is the simplest as well as the best pose for relieving pain in the neck.

Sit in a chair or on the floor in a cross-legged position. Place your right hand on your forehead and place your left hand under your right shoulder blade.

Extended puppy pose

This is the next effective yoga pose for neck pain. Lie down in the supine position and keep your legs straight. Raise your head from the ground and stretch your neck to the right side. Keep it for a minute and then return to the starting position.

Child’s pose

Lie down on the floor in a sitting position and keep your legs crossed. In this pose, you can relax your muscles. Your body will be in a neutral position. This pose is also known as the ‘cat pose’.

Legs-up-the-wall pose

This pose is also known as the ‘shoulder stand pose’. Lie down on the ground and lift your legs up the wall. If you feel comfortable with it, you can also put your feet on the wall.
